Cheryl took her first yoga class at Princeton Center for Yoga & Health as a high school student in 1997. Having grown up a gymnast and later a dancer, the idea of pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses or internalized consciousness) blew her competitively-trained mind and changed her world. While studying modern dance and choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University, Cheryl had the good fortune to take Ashtanga classes with Valerie Jeremijenko, herself a student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, (“father” of Ashtanga Yoga). With her roots set in Ashtanga, Cheryl soon ventured out into the exciting world of Vinyasa Flow and began teaching her first classes in 2001.
After graduating with a BFA in dance from VCU in 2002, Cheryl flowed through many experiences, always seeking balance through yoga on the waves of life. Some of her experiences during this time include; working as a modern dancer in New York City, section-hiking the Appalachian Trail, living on an organic farm, three weeks with a traveling circus, and then finally settling down for five years in Buenos Aires. Now back in the USA, Cheryl is excited to share the voluminous information she gathered along the way. Her life experience and undergraduate training is supported by a solid base of certifications including a 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training at Dhyana Yoga in Philadelphia, a personal training certification from the National Association of Sports Medicine, and a certificate in Thai Massage obtained in Thailand at the Traditional Medical School of WatPo. Cheryl is currently pursuing her master's degree in Dance/Movement Therapy at Drexel University.
